Sunday Suppers Cookbook Gathering

Written by Jessica Comingore

I had the pleasure this past weekend of participating in the launch of the new Sunday Suppers cookbook by hosting a feast made up of delicious recipes from the Autumn Dinner chapter of the book. I’ve been following Karen and her work since its inception and am so inspired to see her vision grow beyond the beautiful Brooklyn dinners to something that can live in anyone’s household and inspire them to entertain. The book itself is a feast for the senses, chock-full of the elegant photography and styling you know and love from Sunday Suppers, and offers recipe ideas for most every season and setting.

Though we’re still experiencing quite the Indian summer here in Los Angeles, it was fun to channel fall through these rustic recipes and find an excuse to sit down with friends and family to enjoy a good meal. I tapped my sister (the Julia Child of our clan) to help with the cooking and styled a simple tablescape on a Santa Barbara patio to enjoy an early evening under a canopy of vines.

On the dinner menu? Corned beef with root vegetables, braised purple cabbage, sesame and salt pretzels with brown beer mustard, and apple and olive oil cake for dessert (which was hands-down my favorite, and I’m still consuming leftovers of every morning). I’m excited to test out a few other recipes I’ve already earmarked throughout the book and invite some friends over as we head into the holidays. Pick up a copy for yourself (or your favorite host), and if you’re not already, follow along with Sunday Suppers happenings on Instagram. Karen’s photos are always a breath of fresh air.

And while we’re on the topic — what are some of your favorite fall recipes? Would love to hear!
