Color Collage: Haint Blue

Written by Cerise Zelenetz

Haint blue, the color of July contains a mysterious, complex history you’d never expect in such an easygoing shade. Originating in the South, the term ‘haint’ was created to describe the restless spirits that inhabited the region’s plantation homes. With mesmerizing charm beyond basic aesthetics; the ethereal blue offers an answer to warding off haints as its milky blue tones resemble water which the ill-wishing spirits cannot cross. From window trims to porch ceilings, this month’s color is a simple solution to lending a sense of mystical protection to any home (no matter the location). In addition to exteriors, haint blue can also aid amazingly in cooling off indoor spaces. Try dispersing candles in the hue throughout your living area for an airy aura, or add a tinted pitcher and matching glasses to your next soiree for Southern style entertaining no matter the place or time.
